Aoyama-sensei was born in Daiei, Tottori in June, on the 38th year of the Showa Era. “Aoyama Gosho” is his real name. His home is located in front of the Daiei Town Plaza where his home owns a Bike Repair shop and a Grocery store. His favourite food is rice with curry.Aoyama-sensei has been talented in drawing ever since he was a child.
When he was in the first grade, his painting, the “Yukiai War”, won a competition and was displayed in the Tottori Daimaru Department Store. He studied at a local high school (Ikuei High) and then went to Nihon University College of Art in Tokyo. During his university years, in winter of 1986, in his freshman year, Aoyama-sensei entered a Manga (comic) contest and won. This was a stepping-stone for his career as an artist (Mangaka) and author, as well as a turning point for him in his life. Aoyama-sensei’s first maiden work was a manga called “Chotto Mattete (Wait a Minute) which was published in the weekly magazine “Shounen Sunday” in winter of ‘87. Afterwards, “Magic Kaito” made its debut on the same magazine.
In the beginning of the 90s, another story done by Aoyama-sensei called, “Yaiba” came out, which released up to twenty-four volumes. This manga won the Shogakukan Manga Contest in ‘92. Other works he released in tankouban included "Magic Kaito," "Third Baseman No.4," "Aoyama Gosho Short Stories," and the all famous "Detective Conan."As for “Detective Conan”, which currently is being release weekly on Shounen Sunday, it is one of the most popular and best selling mangas in Japan. As for the author of this popular manga, Aoyama-sensei has to think rigorously to create stories, especially when it comes to the solutions for his cases.
Let’s all enjoy Detective Conan which were ingeniously created by the hard-working Aoyama-sensei.On May 5th 2005, Aoyama-sensei marries Minami Takayama who, coincidentally, is the voice actor of Conan Edogawa; one Aoyama-sensei’s famous anime series: Detective Conan.
